On April 2, 2025, a great number of individuals convened at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond for the seventh annual Virginia March for Life, one of the state's largest anti-abortion demonstrations. The event commenced with a rally at 10:50 a.m. at the Bell Tower on Capitol Square, followed by a march through downtown Richmond at 11:50 a.m.
Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of advocating for life. She posed the question, "We stand for life and how can it ever be wrong to stand for life?"
Victoria Cobb, president of The Family Foundation of Virginia, also addressed the attendees, expressing concern over a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at enshrining abortion protections in Virginia's constitution. She described the amendment as "barbaric" and highlighted Republican efforts to introduce provisions for instances involving infants born as a result of failed abortions, which were rejected by the Democratic majority.
Personal testimonies were shared during the rally. Shawnte Mallory from Northern Virginia recounted her experience of facing homelessness during her third pregnancy and finding support through a shelter, leading her to become a mother of six.
The proposed constitutional amendment, which passed the legislature this year without requiring gubernatorial approval, must pass again next year before being presented to voters in a statewide referendum. This amendment has become a focal point in the upcoming elections for Virginia's House of Delegates, with all 100 seats up for election. Lieutenant Governor Earle-Sears is anticipated to be the Republican gubernatorial candidate, facing a primary challenge from former delegate Dave LaRock and former senator Amanda Chase, both of whom attended the march.
The Virginia March for Life continues to be a significant event, mobilizing individuals and groups to advocate for anti-abortion policies and to influence the state's legislative and electoral landscape. and this year, I, Jeannie Belgrave, was there to witness a multitude supporting life as a better option.
The following video is a short Summary of incredible people of all ages who I marched along with today.
I second the question: "We stand for life and how can it ever be wrong to stand for life?"
